Description
You may wonder how we came by the name The Crooked Knife'? Whilst exploring the history of the area, we found that 30th street was considered at one time ( and by some still is) to be the northern boundary to Gramercy. The name,"Gramercy" is an Anglicization of "Cromessie", itself derived from the Dutch Krom Mesje, or "Little Crooked Knife," the name of a small brook or stream meandered like a 'crooked little knife or 'Crom messie' in old Dutch ('Krom mesje') through the area. Well, the decision was made to drop the 'little'...and 'The Crooked Knife" was bornFrequently Asked Questions
