Getting Parade Ready! Grand Marshals and Honorary Grand Marshals announced!
We need your Help, take A Page in our Journal. The only way to guarantee yourself a Journal is to take out a Page.
The 25th Annual Throggs Neck St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, stepping off at 12 noon at East Tremont and Lafayette Avenues. We are excited to introduce our 2023 Grand Marshals - Ms. Lois Harr and Mr. Roger Slattery, and commemorate the lives of the 2023 Honorary Grand Marshals.
Lois Harr is a lifelong Bronx resident who attended Cardinal Spelman H.S. and Fordham University – all of which built a foundation for her lifetime of social ministry work. Lois began her long relationship with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) at Manhattan College, where she served for many years as the Director of Campus Ministry and Social Action, before retiring in 2021. Lois volunteers with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of NY and the Advisory Council for the Lasallian Women of Hope (LWH). In October 2022, she received the Sister Louise Hours Award for her accompaniment of others and steadfast support of LWH. Founded in 2022, the Bronx Irish History Project (BIHP) will document the long history of the mass migration of the Irish to the Bronx and Lois has been selected as a contributor for the interview collection.
Roger Slattery has dedicated his life to honoring his Irish heritage and athletics. Roger was born December 22, 1955, to Irish immigrant parents Tom Slattery and Julia Fahy hailing from County Tipperary and County Clare, respectively. Roger grew up in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx where he met his wife Maureen Moore and they eventually moved to Throggs Neck, raising Rory, Ciaran and Shane. Roger has been an active member in the Throggs Neck and Irish American communities as a member of the AOH, President of St Raymond’s Gaelic Football Club, member of the Kerry Pipers, NYC Department of Corrections Emerald Society, the County Tipperary N&B Association of New York, and a coach in the local youth sports leagues of Throggs Neck.
