History
Spring Street Natural was founded in 1973 when terms such as “farm to table”, “locavore,” “organic” and “Paleo” were virtually unheard of in relation to food and dining. While these eating philosophies were not the widespread movements they’ve become today, they have been our inspiration for more than 42 years.
In 1973, SoHo’s fascination was that it was a mostly deserted and slightly menacing neighborhood of cast iron industrial buildings when we opened our doors on Spring Street between West Broadway and Wooster Streets. Spring Street Natural started out serving an entirely macrobiotic menu which quickly caught on with a SoHo in transition. Early customers included artists, local residents and weekend gallery goers.
In 1985 we moved to the corner of Spring and Lafayette Streets, and after 30 years at this location we were forced to move once again, being the latest victims of unsustainable rent increases. However, we found a prefect new home 2 blocks away at 98 Kenmare Street (between Cleveland Place and Mulberry Street).
Now in our fifth decade of serving healthy, tasty and natural cuisine, Spring Natural has always been and will continue to be family owned and operated.
About Us
Simply named “Spring Street” for where we were located and “Natural” for our philosophy which from the beginning has been to serve whole natural foods that are minimally processed. Wherever possible we produce our items in house from fresh natural ingredients and employ tradition
