Description

Discover the excitement of six world premiere performances of new chamber works inspired by Alaska's stunning Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Performed by Corvus.

Event Details

On Saturday evening, March 18, 2023, Corvus (the contemporary ensemble of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival) will be presenting the world premieres of six new pieces, written by the participants of Composing in the Wilderness. This unusual event will take place in the stunning rotunda of Federal Hall National Memorial in Manhattan.

The concert will feature brand new music by Yotam Haber, Alan Mackwell, Leah Mullen, Nicholas Denton Protsack, Hannah Sobel and Daniel Walter.

The six composers spent an adventurous week backpacking the inspiring wilderness of Alaska's Wrangell St. Elias National Park, and their new compositions were all inspired by that immersive experience.

The composers will all be in attendance at the event to provide insights into their pieces, and anecdotes of their adventure experience.

The members of Corvus are; Andie Tanning (violin), Katie Cox (flute), Mara Mayer (clarinet), Alex LoRe (saxophone), Charly Akert (cello), and Joe Bergen (percussion.

Join us at 7:00pm for a unique evening that blends wilderness, contemporary music, and natural history. The event is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there.

This event presented by Composing in the Wilderness and the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in collaboration with Alaska Geographic and the National Park Service.
