Driven, inspired, and motivated by her passion for nursing and what she does, Cathy S. Uhde has built a uniquely diversified career as a nurse. She continues to perform at a superior level with Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, where she employs her extraordinary set of skills and knowledge in psychiatric and substance abuse nursing. Mental health or psychiatric nursing involves caring for people of all ages struggling with mental illness or mental distress, including bipolar disorder, depression, dementia, psychosis, or schizophrenia. As a substance abuse nurse, Cathy is specialized in pain management and helps regulate treatment for patients addicted to drugs, alcohol, or other substances. Much of her work involves teaching patients about the dangers of substance abuse as well as presenting them with the possible treatment options. While she enjoys the hands-on side of being a psychiatric and substance abuse nurse, Cathy S. Uhde also teaches at New York University. Prior to her current roles, she was a senior lecturer for 6 years until 1999 at Kuwait University and was the Director of Human Resources Development at the Hospital Corporation of American in Manila, The Philippines for two years until 1983.
